Total Recreation was established in 1991 in acknowledgement of the major part that leisure plays in people’s lives. People with a disability have the right to the same opportunities as other members of society to participate in sport and recreation activities. Adult Members Total Recreation has over 150 adult members active in numerous programs including sailability, tenpin bowling, drama, arts and craft, dance, fitness, special events, holidays and many more. In addition to this we run adult socials once a fortnight on a Friday evening where members have the opportunity to enjoy social activities in a community setting. This variety of sport and recreational activities assists our members in becoming active and valued members of their community. Youth Total Recreation began working in schools in 2004 after it was identified that many students with a disability did not have access to structured sporting sessions during schools hours. The School Sports program aims to close the gap between students with a disability and their peers, providing equal access to structure physical activity during school hours. The program is delivered through 7 sessions each week in 12 schools to over 200 students. Youth members also have the opportunity to become involved in a number of out of school hours programs including gymnastics, tenpin bowling, athletics, soccer, swimming, dance and special events. In addition youth socials are run once a month on a Friday evening where members have the opportunity to enjoy social activities in a community setting. Support
